Forged and welded steel sculpture with glass mosaic details. The wings are overlapping steel "feathers" heat-treated with the welding torch. A series of 5 penny-roll scrolls and 7 glass pendants make up the peacock's tail. The face is a welded steel mask covered with glass mosaic. Created in collaboration with local mosaic artist Karyn Turnbull.
Author Flannery O'Connor raised peacocks at her family farm in Georgia. Her biography (which has peacocks on the cover) landed in my hands as I began this piece. I had 11 peacock sightings as I worked on this sculpture.
